The Pointman: A Veterans Day TributeIt is just past midnight. My team and I open up the door of the Blackhawk helicopter and I feel the wind blowing on my face. Finally getting a clear view of the town, I flip down my night vision goggles. We are in central Pakistan on an elite mission. I am on my ninth deployment with the SEALs in Afghanistan. The United States Sea, Air, and land unit is part of the Navy. Working my way up the ranks for 11 years put me in an elite team called the NSW Development Group, DEVGRU for short. We are a very special team, and we are highly trained for all situations.
“Twenty minutes,” the pilot says through the radio. At this point I can see our building. Our mission, which is highly secret, is to rescue a captured U.S soldier called Private Joseph from a Taliban hideout in Pakistan. Over the past few months, the CIA has gathered Intel about the building and who is keeping Joseph hostage. Now it is our time. The idea is simple;

But more importantly,
It’s because I know things can spiral quickly,
If things start shifting
After we lay down the concrete.
So I kiss the foundation,
Before we reach the soil.

I imagined kissing your elbow,
Because it holds together the touch
And the flex.
To exhibit it,
I must kiss the joint that bends
And combines us together.
The third day I told you I loved you,
I lay my lips to your temples,
As I learned about the temple of reform,
For the Youth in North America.
Kissing you there signifying I will protect you,
As well as your temple,
As we re-form, into something more.
The fourth day I told you I loved you,
I’d kiss you softly on your forehead.
Because that’s what holds your brillian
